 Thats true, its hard to understand nature of humans, by the time you think people like so and so things, they will take 'U' turn and prove you wrong, do you remember the days where shakeela movies suddenly swept the market and by the time the conclusion was made that we turned into perverts are something like that, everybody started ignoring those movies. We might think that ilayaraja and a.r rehman know the pulse of indians and not every song by them is a hit, similar thing can be observed in politics too.

we see ants we know that their behavior is to walk in line, we see a jungle cat and we know that being a carnivore is its property, just like that we are trying to grasp the behavioral pattern of human species, which turns out to be an impossible task. If everybody thinks in the same way, one religion or one philosophy would have convinced everyone to subscribe, if everybody likes the same food then there wont be these many cuisines, if everybody enjoys the same things, then single genre of music, art and literature, may we need to use the word  "individuals" instead of "people".

మతం Vs సంస్కృతి

మతం అనగా చాలా మందికి confusion లేదు, మతం అంటే అటు ఇటు గా  మనిషికి దేవుడికి మధ్యన ఉండే అమ్బికాదర్బార్ బత్తి అని అందరికి ఒక ఐడియా ఉంది. ఇక సంస్కృతి దగ్గర గొడవ వొస్తోంది.

 సంస్కృతి ని మనకి ఉండే కామన్ అలవాట్లు, ఆచారాలు, నమ్మకాలు, విలువలు, భాష , విధానాలు etc etc . గా చెప్పొచ్చు. మతాల ప్రపంచకీకరణ జరగక ముందు , ఒక మతం ఒక భూభాగానికే పరిమితమయిన కాలంలో సంస్కృతి మీద మతం అధికారం చాలా ఉండేది. అప్పట్లో ఒక వ్యక్తి ఒక పని చేసాడు అంటే మతం ఆదేశించడం వల్ల చేసాడా లేక అక్కడి సంస్కృతి వల్ల చేసాడా అని చెప్పడం కుదిరేది కాదనుకుంటా , of course ఇప్పటికి చెప్పడం కొంచం కష్టమే.

గమనిస్తే ఒకప్పటి తెలుగు పేర్లు అన్ని దేవుడి పేర్ల నుంచో , భారత రామాయణాల నుంచో  direct గా కాపీ కొట్టినవే, వెంకటేశ్వర్లు, వెంకటాచలపతి, అప్పన్న, సింహాచలం, భద్రాచలం, సరస్వతి , లక్ష్మి, హనుమంతు, హనుమాన్లు, రామయ్య, రాముడు, లక్ష్మయ్య , గణపతి ఇలా ఉండేవి, తర్వాత రావులు మొదలయ్యారు బాగా, సుబ్బారావు, అప్పారావు, నాగేశ్వర రావు ... ఇక్కడ పేర్లు direct గా కాపీ కొట్టడం కాస్త తగ్గి , కొంచం complicated అయ్యాయి, తర్వాత రాజేష్, విజయ్ ఇలాంటి పేర్లు మొదలయ్యాయి, ఇది సంస్కృతి ... వెంకటేశ్వర్లు అని ఉంటేనే హిందువు, రాజేష్ అని ఉంటె హిందువు కాదు అని చెప్పలేము.  పేర్లు పెట్టడమనేది సంస్కృతి లోకి వస్తుంది, మతం లోకి కాదు. మన దగ్గర తాత పేరు మనవడకి పెట్టడం సంస్కృతి, రాముడు తన కవల పిల్లలకి తండ్రుల పేర్లేమి పెట్టలేదు, అలా అని రాముడు హిందూ కాదు అని కాదు, తెలుగు వాళ్ళు మొత్తం హిందువులు కాదు అని కాదు, అలాగే మొత్తం భారత దేశం లో కేవలం తెలుగు వాళ్ళు మాత్రమె ఇంటి పేరు ముందు రాసుకుని , తర్వాత అసలు పేరు రాసుకుంటారు ( చివర్లో కులం పేరు వస్తుంది అది వేరే సంగతి) అలా అని తెలుగు వాళ్ళు హిందూ మతం ని follow అవ్వడం లేదు, అని కాదు కదా...అది మన సంస్కృతి అంతే.

అలాగే మనం వాడే దుస్తులు కూడా , సల్వార్ కమీజ్ తెలుగు వస్త్రధారణ లోకి రాదు , సికింద్రాబాద్ మెట్టు గూడా దగ్గర ఉన్న చర్చి ముందు రోడ్ మీద మేరీ మాత కి ఒక చిన్న గుడి లాంటిది కట్టారు, దాన్లో ఆవిడకి పట్టు చీర కడతారు , ఆంధ్రా లో ఉండే చాలా మంది ముస్లిం మహిళలు నల్లపూసలు వేసుకుంటారు,  పెళ్ళికి ముందు engagement లో ఉంగరాలు మార్చుకోడం, పెళ్లి తర్వాత reception , పెళ్ళికొడుకు పెళ్లి కూతుర్ల తమ్ములు శేర్వాని వేసుకోవాలన్న పద్దతి ఇవన్ని ఒక సంస్కృతి ఇంకోదాని దగ్గర నుంచి అరువు తెచ్చుకున్నవే. నిజానికి హిందూ సాంప్రదాయాలలో భాగమయిన పట్టు వస్త్రం చైనా నుంచి అరువు తెచ్చుకున్నదే .  ఇలా అని వీళ్ళందరూ వాళ్ల వాళ్ల మతాలని సరిగ్గా నమ్మడం లేదు అని కాదు కదా. సంస్కృతి , ఆచారాలు ,సాంప్రదాయాలు మారుతూ ఉంటాయి కాని మతం మారదు.

కాకపోతే చాలామంది దృష్టిలో మతం, సంస్కృతి ఒకటే. ఒక ముస్లిం అనగానే మీసం లేకుండా గడ్డం పెంచుకుని, తెల్లటి బట్టలు వేసుకుని, నెత్తి మీద skull cap తో ఉండే మగవాడో, లేక బురఖా వేసుకున్న ఆడదే గుర్తొస్తుంది. బ్రాహ్మణుడు అనగానే విభూతి, గుండు , పిలక, చొక్కలేకుండా ధోతి కట్టుకున్న వ్యక్తే గుర్తొస్తాడు.  ఒక క్రిస్టియన్ అనగానే ఆ వ్యక్తీ పేరు మేరి, జేమ్స్ , జాన్ ఇలా పాశ్చాత్య పేర్లు ఉంటాయని, వాళ్ళు బొట్టు పెట్టుకోరని అనుకుంటాము. బొట్టు పెట్టుకొని వారందర్నీ ఆ మతానికి చెందిన వారే అనుకుంటాము. కాని మన వేషభాషలు మన సంస్కృతి మీద depend అయ్యి ఉంటాయి కాని మతం మీద కాదు.

మతం కి సంస్కృతికి ఉన్న తేడా కి నాకు తెలిసిన ఒక వ్యక్తీ పరాకాష్ట. ఒక గట్టి హిందూ వాది , ముస్లిమ్స్ వల్ల భారతదేశానికి నష్టం జరుగుతోంది అని నాతో వాదిస్తూ " jesus christ sanju, why cant u understand my point" అన్నారు. 

సంస్కృతి మీద మతం అధికారం తగ్గుతూ వస్తోంది. ఇంకా తగ్గుతుంది అనే అనుకుంటున్నాను .

నా వేదన

చాలా మంది జీవితాలలో లాగే నా వేదన కూడా నవయవ్వన దశ లోనే మొదలయింది. సంవత్సరాల బాధ. ఏమి చేసినా పోదు, ఎల్లప్పుడూ బాధపెడుతూనే ఉంటుంది, కాలం అన్ని సంయలకి పరిష్కారం అంటారు కాని ....అది నిజం కాదు.

ఇన్ని సంవత్సరాలుగా నాతోనే ఉంది. ప్రతి క్షనమ్ నేను ఉన్నా అని గుర్తు తెస్తూనే ఉంటుంది. సరిగ్గా అలోచిన్చుకోలేను, అర్థ రాత్రి లేచి బాధ పడిన రోజులున్నాయి. అందరితోను చెప్పుకోలేను, అర్థం కాక పోవచ్చు కూడా. ఆప్తమిత్రులు అడిగే వారు , మాట దాటేసే వాడిని  మొదట్లో, కాని మన గురించి బాగా తెలిసిన స్నేహితులని , రోజు చూసే స్నేహితులని మోసం చెయ్యలేం, గుర్తుపట్టి అడిగే వారు , అంత ఏమి లేదులే అని చెప్పెసేవాడిని. అదో పెద్ద సమస్యే కాదు అన్నట్టు మాట్లాడేవాడిని.

చాలా  మందికి తప్పదనుకుంటా ఇది, కాని బయటకి కనిపియ్యకుండా ఎలా మేనేజ్ చేస్తున్నారో అనిపించేది. హడావిడిగా ఉన్నప్పుడు , పని ఒత్తిడి లో ఉన్నప్పుడు తాత్కాలికంగా బాధ తెలియకపోయినా , కాస్త విరామం దొరకగానే మళ్ళి తెలిసేది. తీవ్రత ఎక్కువయ్యేసరికి , నేను పెద్దగా తెలియని వాళ్ళకి కూడా విషయం అర్థం అవడం మొదలయ్యింది. చాలా మంది చాలా సలహాలు ఇచ్చారు, ఉపశమనం తాత్కాలికంగా లభించినా , పూర్తిగా పోలేదు. నెమ్మదిగా అలవాటు అవ్వసాగింది , ఇలా వదిలేస్తే జీవితాంతం బాధ పడుతూనే ఉంటా అని చివరికి మెడికల్ హెల్ప్ తీసుకుంటున్నాను.

మాకి కిరి కిరి ఈ చుండ్రు ఎప్పటికి వదులుతుందో ఏంటో .

Ignorance is not bliss ....its bullshit

Ignorance is for those people who do not want to handle reality and want to escape it. These are the people who prefer to be in darkness if they fear that they might see a lion in the room if the light comes in.  But unless there is light its impossible to know if our room mate is a lion or a rat.

Another form of the whole escaping reality thing is our incredible efforts to forget it. Alcohol or drugs is just one way to forget it. There are many similar ways. When i say forgetting reality, i meant the reality one is dealing with. The situations and problems of others are not ours, so we indulge in them to forget our own. Thus born  gossiping, watching soap operas. And there are always sports, games, hobbies, movies and books which make us forget our own reality for sometime.

What if i want to forget it for the whole life, then i will have to embrace religion. Almost every religion subscribes idea that this earthly life is limited and there is unlimited life in heaven or hell where we might enjoy or suffer. The religion makes me believe that my actions are predefines so that i dont have to deal with the guilt of my own deeds. And there is a god who will come to help when i need him, so i dont have to worry about the problems in real life. And it also provides the side-track to forget what's happening around by asking me to perform rituals without which i will go to hell, which is always depicted scarier than earthly real life. If i perform those rituals i will go to heaven which is filled with manifestations of idea of comfort, soothing and happiness. In a nutshell instead of worrying about surroundings i am asked to runaway from hell and reach heaven.  No wonder Marx thought religion is opium of masses.

I hate to admit but, life of a theist seems to be cool.

 కోళ్ళ పందాలు , ధాన్యం ఇంటికి రావడం కథల్లోను మూవీస్ లోను ఏవో చూపిస్తారు  . సిటి లో పెరిగితే సంక్రాంతి డిఫరెంట్ గా అనిపిస్తుంది.

అసలు సంక్రాంతి అనగా ...

1. పతంగులు , రకరకాల ఆకారాల్లో దొరుకుతాయి, ఎగురుతాయా లేవా అన్నది వేరే సంగతి. న్యూస్ పేపర్ తో వాటిని తయారు చెయ్యడం , మాన్జాలు కొనడం , లేకపోతే దారాలకి అన్నం, గుడ్డు, ఏవో నూనెలు రాయడం.  పతన్గికి సరిగ్గా కన్నాలు పెట్టి దారం కట్టడం , వాటికి తోకలు పెట్టడం, పోటీలు పెట్టుకోడం, తెగిపోయిన పతంగి వెనుక పోలో మని పరిగెట్టడం , గాలి ఎటు ఉందా అని చూసుకోడం, పతంగి ఎగారేయ్యడానికి, దారం చరక కి చుట్టడానికి ఒక assistant ,  ఇంకోడి పతంగి తెగ్గొట్టి "కాటే " అని గొంతు చించుకుని అరవడం, మన పతంగి తెగ్గోట్టినవాడితో గొడవలు పాడటం, కక్ష సాధించడానికి వాడు ఎగరేసిన పతంగి మీద concentrate చెయ్యడం,  మా బిల్డింగ్ మీద పడింది కాబట్టి మాదే అన్న వాడితో ఇంకో గొడవ ..... పెద్ద తతంగం ఇది..బేసికల్ గా బద్ధకం ఉంది కాబట్టి నేను వీటికి దూరంగా ఉండే వాడిని.

2. చిన్నప్పుడు భోగి మంట పెట్టె వాడిని, ఇప్పుడు GHMC వాళ్ళు రెగ్యులర్ గా చెత్త తీసుకెళ్లడం వల్ల కాల్చడానికి చెత్త లేక బద్ధకం వయసుతో పాటు ఇంకొంచం పెరగడం వల్ల మానేసాను

3. పొద్దునే తలపాగా పెట్టుకుని పీ పీ పీ పీ అని ఊదుతూ, ఒక దూడ వీపు మీద పట్టు చీర కప్పి, దాన్ని తోలుకుంటూ ఒకడు వచ్చేవాడు. డబ్బులిస్తే కాని ఆ వూదడం ఆపడు అని వెంటనే డబ్బులు ఇచ్చి పొమ్మనే వాడిని. మా తాతయ్య డబ్బులిచ్చి ఇంకాసేపు వూదమనే వారు. అక్కడ గొడవ వచ్చేది నాకు ఆయనకీ.

4. అసలే మా కాలనీ రోడ్లు చెండాలంగా ఉంటాయి అని ఏడుస్తూ ఉంటె , సరిగ్గా ఉన్న కాస్త రోడ్డు మీద ముగ్గులేసేసి, ఆ వేసిన ముగ్గుని కాపాడటానికి చుట్టూ ఇటుక రాళ్ళు , కంకర రాళ్ళు పెడ్తున్నారు , ఇదో బాధ.

5. ఇక టీవీ లో , సంక్రాంతి గొప్పదనం, అసలు మకరం అంటే ఏంటి, హరిదాసు, ఇప్పటి వాళ్ళకి ఇవేవి పట్టవు అని ఒకటే గోల.

6. ముగ్గు బొమ్మలు ఉండే SMS లు వస్తాయి. ఒకమ్మాయి ముగ్గు వేస్తూ ఉండే image file తో మెయిల్స్ వస్తాయి. వచ్చిన వాటిని ఇంకోళ్ళకి forward చెయ్యడం.

సంక్రాంతి వ్యవసాయదారుల పండుగ , పంట చేతికొచ్చింది అని వాళ్ల ఆనందం. వారం రోజులు సెలవులు వచ్చాయి అని పిల్లలకి ఆనందం. ఒక హాలిడే వచ్చింది అని మనకి ఆనందం.

Frankenstein is not a Monster.

The work of Mary Shelly become a curse to the word 'Frankenstein' . In the modern literature it is associated with person who kills or torments his master.

For me, the theme of  the book is not science fiction or about lack of gratitude of a being towards its creator. The real theme is loneliness and being rejected everywhere. Sounds boring but, a person who knows the actual difference between loneliness and solitude might enjoy this book.

The story which is explained using series nested letters from one another, gives us the glimpse of a scientist who is ambitious to defy god and later realized that nature has its way and humans should not mess with it. And it gives us the complete discourse of an animal which is better than human and wants to be a "social animal" like humans. When its master denied its request to create more creatures like it to socialize, it decided to show the taste of  loneliness and not-being-loved. It starts killing each of his friends and family members in a fatal attempt to make him empathize its state. To save his loved ones from the it, the scientist chases it and both end up in north pole.

A sailor, whose ship was trapped in the ice of north pole, finds the scientist in a dying state, listens to his story and  amazed by the creatures willingness to end its life on the funeral pyre of its master.

The dialogue "You are my creator, but I am your master. Obey!" of the creature lead to modern usage of the word Frankenstein. 

Pair of eyes not enough

I think I need some more eyes. . Apart from regular eyes , I need one to give electric shocks when I opened it, I should have one on back of my head to check who is behind me (My bike does not have rear-view mirrors) , one on top of my head to check if any pigeons flying over my head at punjagutta and nalgonda X roads and shitting, one infrared eye for driving. One spiritual eye, at least 3 eyes to read three different books simultaneously, one dedicated eye for news channels and one for entertainment channels. And each eye should have a hook above it so that books and tv's could be attached to it.

Anyway whats the point of having just a pair of eyes? So that ears, legs and kidneys wont feel inferior numerically?

The problem with having just one pair of eyes and a very creative mind is, we tend to believe what ever we saw i.e. what ever our eyes could see. And this limitation created lot of illusions, like, we see sun rising in the east and setting in the west and mankind believed that sun is roaming around the Earth. The same limitation made us believe that earth is flat.

This phenomenon is not just confined to physical world, its affects are visible in understanding society too. A foreigner sees India through National Geographic and Discovery channels and believes that india is filled with monkeys, elephants and snake charmers. A guy from metropolitan city who watches eyes full of NDTV Good Times forgets the existence of villages and thinks everybody in india is filthy rich. A middle class person living in a village thinks he is lot better than the rest and when he comes to city will start thinking that everyone is trying to loot him. We see few American or Japanese documentaries and pass derogatory remarks on Indian work culture. We admire growth rate of China because we cant see the lack of fundamental rights there. We judge a person based on looks. The moment we see that the persons skin color/ body build/ nose is different than our own, we develop dislike towards them. We mostly go by looks while choosing a life partner because we equate beauty with lot of qualities . We read one book in philosophy and prefers to stick to it for rest of the life. We go to a village for one day and believe that villages are filled with dirt and innocence. We read Eenadu and believe that YS Jagan is stupid, we read Sakshi and believe that, except YS Jagan, rest of the world is bad.

In a way, we always feed our brain with incomplete version of reality, so , cant blame brain for drawing inappropriate conclusions. Either the world should not be this complex or we should be more dumb to match limitations of our eyes. If there is a God who created us all, he is cruel.

Manmohan Singh's Golden Year

This was definitely golden year for India. There was Gold in Satya Sai private chamber, there is at ananta padmanabha swami temple, in fact the metal itself felt very proud and made its price very high.

Of course he faced many political hiccups, one side team anna and another side Judiciary, kind of played foot ball with him. He had to face the heat of public due to petrol price and RBI Subbarao still fighting with inflation. Mamatha benarjee joined lately in the club. And there is FDI mess.

For an ordinary man, the issues PM faced this year would have blown his head, but our PM's head is still intact, or may be his head is already blasted and the turban is holding the pieces together.

Owaisi Vs Jagan

Both came from political families, both took support of their fathers, both are semi-gods in their constituencies  and both are controversial personalities. But who is a better MP? Jagan or Owaisi?

Owaisi, in this 15th loksabha, raised 592 questions so far, introduced one private bill and participated in 19 debates with 68% attendance.

And Jagan Reddy has 59% attendance in Loksabha, but never opened his mouth to ask a question or to participate in a debate.

Well, we elected all those MPs to the parliament so that, they can discuss and make policies. What's the point of  getting elected if our representatives dont talk in parliament. For a MP, his primary job is to take part in legislature, not having control of MPLAD scheme and extra security.

FDI & భారతదేశ స్వతంత్రం

"వర్తకం పేరుతో వచ్చి భారత దేశాన్ని బానిసత్వపు సంకెళ్ళతో కేట్టేసిన తెల్ల కుక్కలు " --------- అసలు కత్తి డయలాగు ఇది. కాని దీన్లో మొత్తం నిజం ఉందా ?

FDI , international trade అనగానే , మళ్ళి మిగతా ప్రపంచంతో వర్తకం చేయడం వల్ల భారతదేశం తన స్వయంప్రతిపత్తిని కోల్పోతుందా అనే అనుమానాలు  చాలా మందికి ఉన్నాయి అని నాకు ఈ మధ్యనే అర్థం అవుతోంది.

వర్తకం చేయడం వల్ల మనం స్వతంత్రాన్ని కోల్పోలేదు . మిరియాలు, ఏలకులు , నల్ల మందు వర్తకం జరిగినంత కాలం బాగానే ఉంది. ఎప్పుడయితే బ్రిటిషు వారికి , ఫ్రెంచు వారికి , కోటలు కట్టుకోడానికి,  ఇక్కడ వాళ్ళు సైన్యం మైంటైన్ చేయడానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వబడిందో , ఎప్పుడయితే ఇంకో భారత దేశ రాజుని ఓడించడానికి వాళ్ల సహాయం తీసుకుని, తమ రాజ్యం లో కప్పం వసూలు చేసుకోడానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వడం మొదలు పెట్టారో అప్పుడు భారత దేశం స్వతంత్రం కోల్పోడం మొదలు పెట్టింది.

కాని ఇప్పుడు అదే పరిస్థితి ఉందా ? వచ్చిన MNC's కి tax వసూలు చేసే అధికారం , వారి సొంత ఆర్మీ పెట్టుకునే అధికారం లేనంత కాలం , FDI అనేది బానిసత్వంని  భారతదేశం మీదకి రుద్దుతుంది అని భయపడక్కర్లేదనుకుంటా .

అనుభవం నుంచి పాఠాలు నేర్చుకోవాలి , ఒప్పుకుంటా . కాని సరయిన పాఠం నేర్చుకోవాలి. ఒక వ్యక్తి మోసం చేసాడు అని , ఇక ఎవరితోను మాట్లాడను, ఎవరి మాటా వినిపించుకోకుండా చేవుల్లు దూదులు పెట్టుకుని మాత్రమే తిరుగుతా అనడం సరి కాదు , ఎదుటి వాడు నిజం చెబుతున్నాడా లేదా అని తెలుసుకోగలిగే విజ్ఞత తెచ్చుకోవడం సరి అయిన పాఠం

వాల్మార్ట్ కిరాణా & జనరల్ స్టోర్స్

వాల్మార్ట్ వస్తే మన కిరాణా & జనరల్ స్టోర్స్ మూత పడతాయా ? ఇన్ని మోర్ సూపర్ మార్కెట్స్ ఉన్నా చావని కిరాణా కొట్టు , వాల్మార్ట్ కి తల వంచుతుందా ?

pepe jeans, reebok , nike , adidas , peter england , van heusen and pan america brands రావటం వల్ల , మన చర్మాస్ , kumar shirts, jc brothers, bommana brothers, neerus , పుచ్చల సిల్క్స్ , రాజమండ్రి లో సినిమాలు , టీవీ సీరియల్ పేర్లతో చీరలు అమ్మే దుకాణాలు నడవడం మనేసాయా?

పది సంవత్సరాల క్రితం కంపూటర్లు వల్ల ఉన్న ఉద్యోగాలు పోయి, నిరుద్యోగం పెరుగుతుంది అన్న వాదన నిజమయినదా ? అప్పుడు ప్రజలు భయపడినట్టే  జరిగిందా ?

ఇలా వాల్మార్ట్ రాగానే అలా ప్రజలంతా అక్కడికి వెళ్లి ఉప్పులు పప్పులు కొంటారా ? ఎక్కడో ఉండే వాల్మార్ట్ కి వెళ్లి VAT తో కలిపిన బిల్ కడతారా లేక ఇంటిదగ్గర కిరాణా కొట్టులో బిల్ లేకుండా కొంటారా ?

అసలు ప్రభుత్వం ఏం చెయ్యాలి అంటే ......

ప్రభుత్వం పనుల్లో ముఖ్యంగా సైన్యాన్ని , law and order ని మైంటైన్ చెయ్యడం . ఇవి కాకుండా ప్రభుత్వం చాలా చేయ్య్యాలి .

బుర్ర పగలకుండా హెల్మెట్ పెట్టుకోమని ప్రభుత్వమే చెప్పాలి, పిల్లలకి పోలియో రాకుండా మందులు ప్రభుత్వమే పంచాలి , దోమలు ఎక్కువకకుండా ఉండటానికి నీళ్ళు నిలువ ఉంచకండి అని ప్రభుత్వమే చెప్పాలి, అలా కాకుండా దోమలు ఎక్కువయితే దోమల మందు ప్రభుత్వమే కొట్టాలి . తక్కువ ధరకే విత్తనాలు, ఎరువులు , కరెంటు , నీళ్ళు ఇచ్చి , ఒకవేళ సరయిన మద్దతు ధర మార్కెట లో లభించకపోతే ప్రభుత్వమే ఆ పంటని కొని, గోదాముల్లో పెట్టుకోవాలి . చిన్నపిల్లలకి పెళ్ళిళ్ళు చేయొద్దని ప్రభుత్వమే చెప్పాలి, పిల్లల్ని చదివించమని చెప్పాలి, వాళ్ళకి ఉచితంగా స్చూల్స్ కట్టాలి,  వాళ్లకి స్కూల్ లో భోజనాలు పెట్టాలి, ఆడపిల్లలని చంపోద్దని చెప్పాలి, మగ పిల్లలని అమ్ముకోవద్దని చెప్పాలి, తాగి డ్రైవ్ చెయ్యొద్దని, ఎయిడ్స్ రాకుండా కండోమ్స్ వాడమని కూడా ప్రభుత్వమే చెప్పాలి, కరువు వరదలు వచినపుడు రుణాలు మాఫీ చెయ్యాలి , NREGA లాంటి ప్రోగ్రామ్స్ మైంటైన్ చెయ్యాలి, నిమ్న కులస్తులకి చదువుకోడానికి స్కాలర్షిప్స్ ఇవ్వాలి, వాళ్ల చదువు పూర్తీ అయ్యాక ప్రభుత్వ ఉద్యోగాలలో రిజర్వేషన్ ఇవ్వాలి, ఇంకా ఫ్రీ గా టీవీలు , తక్కువ ధరకే టాబ్లెట్ ఫోన్స్  అందించాలి, మనం వంట చేసుకుని తినడానికి గ్యాస్ , నడపడానికి కార్లో డీసిల్,  తక్కువ సబ్సిడి కే ఇవ్వాలి ,   ఇవి కాకుండా ఆస్పత్రి వసతులు, గ్రంధాలయాలు , పార్కులు కట్టాలి, మరుగు దొడ్లు కట్టాలి, ఆనకట్టలు కట్టాలి, పేద వారికి ఇళ్ళు  కట్టివ్వాలి, ప్రభత్వ ఉద్యోగులకి కూడా కట్టివ్వాలి , స్థలాలు పంచాలి , ఆడవారికి ముసలి వారికి పన్నులో రాయితి ఇవ్వాలి, అర్తికపన్ను తగ్గించుకోడానికి చిన్నమొత్తాల పొదుపు, ఇందిరా వికాస పత్రం లాంటి ప్రోగ్రాములు పెట్టాలి , యునివేర్సిటీలు , కళాశాలలు పెట్టాలి, అక్కడ రిసెర్చ్ చేసే వాళ్ళకి ఆర్ధిక సహాయం చెయ్యాలి , బస్సులు రైళ్ళు నడపాలి, వాటిలో ముసలివారికి వికలాంగులకి రాయితి కల్పించాలి , వార్డ్ దగ్గరనుంచి , లోక్ సభ దాకా ఎన్నికలు నిర్వహించాలి ....ఇంకా ఇలాంటివి బోలెడు చెయ్యాలి .

ప్రజలుగా మనమేం చెయ్యాలి ? పన్ను కట్టాలి, వోటు వెయ్యాలి . 2009 లో వోటు వేసినవారు 59.7%, మొత్తం పన్ను కట్టే వారు అటు ఇటు గా 2.5% .  అదీ  సంగతి.

United we fall !!

With EU leaders discussing to keep Greece in Eurozone or not, the collectivism with binding economic-legal bond at international level proves to be wrong idea again.

Most people thought that the collapse of USSR is because of the dictatorship of few mindless policy makers, it could be one of the reasons but from the angle of current eurozone crisis it appears that, the collectivism which was the idea behind both USSR and EU was wrong. Probably in international economy "united we stand, divided we fall " motto does not work.

Earlier some of  the SAARC leaders supported the idea of EU like economic and political reforms in South Asia. It was dropped later.

 The problem with common currency is, the nation which is facing financial crisis cant devalue its currency like China do. If Greece was not in the Eurozone, to handle the debt crisis it would have devalued its currency to let the economy flow at the domestic level. In the absence of Eurozone, other countries dont have to share the burden created by Greece and Italy. If Greece is out of EU, then Italy is next in line.

Anyway, with the Eurozone crisis,  Ayn Rand leading with 2 - 0  against karl Marx in International Trade match. (She scored one point when USSR collapsed)

గెలిచినోడికేం తెలుసు ....

పోరాడి గెలిచిన వాడికేం తెలుస్తుంది. పోరాటం అయిపోయాక బహుమతులు, సన్మానాలు , పొగడ్తలు, కొత్త స్నేహాలు, పేరు , కొత్తగా వచ్చే మర్యాద , పెద్దల ఆశీస్సులు , చిరునవ్వులు , మందహాసాలు , గెలవడానికి ఎంత కష్టపడ్డాడో కధలుగా చెబుతూ ఉంటె పైకి కిందకి ఆడించే తలకాయలు , సలహాలు సంప్రదింపుల కోసం వచ్చే ప్రజలు , పండగ చేసుకోడాలూ , వాడి మీద వాడికి నమ్మకం ఉంది కాబట్టి అంత రిస్క్ తీసుకున్నాడు అనే ప్రశంసలు , "ఆ గెలిచాడు చూడు వాడిలా " అని పిల్లలకి ఒక రోల్ మోడల్ అవ్వడం , పార్టీ ఎప్పుడు మామా అనే పలకరింపులు , నీకేంట్రా సక్సెస్ కొట్టావు అనే మాటలు, ....

అదే ఓడిన వాడికి అయితే , పోన్లే మామ ఇంకోసారి చూసుకోవచ్చు బాధపడకు అనే జాలి మాటలు , తర్వాత ఎం చేద్దామనే ప్రశ్నలు , అదిగో వాడిలా అవి ఇవి అంటూ సమయం వృధా చెయ్యకు అని మిగత వాళ్ళకి ఒక ఉదాహరణ అవ్వడాలు , కోరిక ఉండగానే సరి పోదు కదా , తెలివి తేటలు కూడా ఉండాలి కదా అనే వెనక మాటలు , నీకు ఇంక రాదేమోరా ఓడిలేయ్య కూడదా అంటూ  డయలాగులు , ఏమయింది ఏమయింది అంటూ అత్యుత్సహపు ప్రశ్నలు , ఎందుకు పోయిన్దంటావు అంటూ ఎంక్వయిరీలు. వీటన్నింటికి సమాంతరంగా ఉండే  ఓడిపోయామన్న బాధ , తన మీద తనకున్న నమ్మకానికి పడిన దెబ్బ ,గెలిచిన వాడు నాకన్నా బెట్టర్ అని ఒప్పుకోడానికి అడ్డొచ్చే ego ,  గెలిచిన వాడి మీద మంట , ప్రజలని దూరం పెట్టాలి అనుకోడం , అలా ఎలా ఓడిపోయాం అని వెంటాడే ప్రశ్న ,  తర్వాత ఎం చెయ్యాలో అర్థం కాకపోవడం , ప్రజలు ఓటమి గురించి మాటల్డటం మానేస్తే బాగుండు అనుకోడం  , ' గెలుపు ఓటమి సమానంగా చూడాలి ' అనే ముష్టి  డయలాగులు కొట్టడం , వెధవ నవ్వులు నవ్వడం, నాలా ఎంత మంది ఓడిపోయారు అని వెతుక్కోడం ,  ఓటమి లోంచి బయటపడటానికి, ' జీవితం , ప్రపంచం చాలా పెద్దవి ' అన్న జ్ఞానోదయం తెచ్చుకోడం.

గెలిచిన వాడికేం తెలుసు, వాడి చుట్టూ తిరిగే ప్రజలకేం తెలుసు ఓడినోడి బాధ . గెలిచిన వాడికన్న,  ఓడిన తర్వాత ఇన్ని బాధలు తట్టుకుని మాములుగా ఉండే ఓడినవాడే గొప్ప .  అవును ...నేనే గొప్ప :D

The Curious case of Narendra Modi

He should be getting " Controversial India of the Decade" award, if there is a such thing. Many could not come to a conclusion about him. Is he a hero, a villain, slayer of muslims, avenger of Hindus, visionary, growth oriented person, the best CM, the hypocrite etc etc etc and it seems he deserves not just one title but many. 

As Thomas Hobbs explained in his book Leviathan, in the absence of external fearsome power, there will be a war of all against all. And that external fearsome power in the society is police. Though there are crimes going on everyday, we cant neglect the role of police in creating fear in people so that they will think twice before indulging into a crime. But what if  the authority of police to punish when the crime is about to happen/happening is stripped? There will be a battalion just watching if someone beats you up. Now imagine, someone is coming to kill you with a weapon and police were just standing there like a statue. Somebody stole your car and police wont take a complaint, somebody occupied your land and police are motionless. 

Of course  according to some people, he did a good thing by allowing the angry mob to take revenge. If revenge is the justification of the act, then what is the point of having courts, judges, lawyers and PILs ( చట్టాన్ని చేతుల్లోకి తీసుకోకూడదు అని పాత తెలుగు మూవీస్ లో తెగ చెప్పేవారు గుర్తుందా )

Coming to other side of coin i.e development in Gujarat. Yes, the the state is business friendly even before Narendra Modi and we just cant ignore his efforts to attract investment into the state. We will have to agree that the Gujarat under the control of Narendra Modi become the leader in business. 

But whats the point of growth in GDP, when a section of society are denied protection from violence and justice. What is the point of me having a good job with nice pay, when i am not sure police would come to protect me when i am being mugged coming home? Or at least take a complaint after that? And this treatment is only because my religion is different from CM's. 

Any way, does it matter, even if rest of India says he is a bad man.No. The people of Gujarat re-elected him with thumping majority, we should respect their verdict. Can we call them religious fundamentalists because they have elected a man who acted like one? Again no. After all we are living in a country, where a party was elected with highest majority just after its members strategically killed around three thousand sikhs, only because they belong to same religion that of the murderers of the party president.  

Telugu script in Android

Finally today i get to know how to make Android render telugu font. Its a bit complicated if you are not a geek. Just download Droidsansfallback from here. Then copy the font file to /system/fonts folder of the phone. Restart the phone. Thats it. The telugu font should be rendered in the browser and in gmail. Its actually fun to read telugu mails in mobile.

The condition is, the phone has to be rooted. If the phone is rooted, then you can copy the font using the font installer app from android. Or you could use ADB to do all the stuff.

 Thats not all, there is maltiling keyboard in Market which will enable us to type telugu in mobile. But its like the old Telugu Typewriter, too hard to manage, if it is any easier i would be tweeting in telugu by now.

పులులతో పోటి పడుతున్న ఏనుగు కథ

అనగనగా ఒక దట్టమైన అడివిలో ఒక ఏనుగు ఉంది . ఒకప్పుడు ఆ ఏనుగే ఆ అడివికి పెద్ద. ఆ ఏనుగు మీద చాలా కథలున్నాయి. అడివిలో ఎవరికీ సహాయం కావాల్సి వచ్చినా ఏనుగు దిక్కే చూసే వారు . ఎక్కడ చూసినా  ఏనుగు గురించి గొప్పగా మాట్లాడుకునే వారు. కొంతకాలానికి ఏనుగుకి ఆ గొప్పదనం అలవాటు అయ్యిపోయింది. ఇంకోళ్ళకి సలహాలు సూచనలు ఇస్తూ , తత్వం మాట్లుడుతూ  కాలం వెళ్ళబుచ్చుతోంది.

. ఏనుగు గొప్పదనం విన్న ఒక  సింహం దాడి చేసి ఏనుగుని ఓడించింది. కొంతకాలానికి సింహం ఆ అడవి వొదిలిపెట్టి వెళ్ళిపోయింది. సింహం చేతిలో ఓడిపోయాక కూడా , ఏమి జరగనట్టు , తన పాత గొప్పదనాల గురించి మిగతా జంతువులులకి చెబుతూ , తత్వం మాట్లాడేస్తూ కూర్చోనేది. ఇంకోల్లతో ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకునే సంబంధాలు ఏమి పెట్టుకోకుండా , ఎక్కడికి వెళ్ళకుండా , తన దగ్గరకి ఎవరోస్తే వాళ్ళకి తన పాత గొప్పలు చెబుతూ ఇంకా అడివికి దిక్కు తనే అన్నట్టు ఉండసాగింది. గతం గురించి తప్ప వర్తమానం లో తన గురించి తాను పట్టించుకోక పోవడం వల్ల, ఏనుగు మీద మట్టి , దుమ్ము బాగా పేరుకు పోయాయి. కొవ్వు కూడా పెరగసాగింది. అలా ఏనుగు ఆకారం కొంచం గా పెద్దది అయినట్టుగా అనిపించసాగింది అందరికి . దానికి ఏనుగు పెరుగుదల రేటు అని ముద్దు పేరు కూడా పెట్టుకున్నాయి మిగతా జంతువులు.

ఇంతలో నాలుగు పులుల ప్రభావం అడివి మీద పెరగడం మొదలయ్యింది. అన్ని జంతువులు ఆ పులుల దగ్గరికే వెళ్లడం , వాటి తోనే మాట్లాడటం ఎక్కువయిపోయింది. అడివిలో ఏనుగు ప్రభావం తగ్గిపోతోంది.  అంత పెద్ద ఆకారంతో ఉంది కాబట్టి ఏనుగు ప్రభావం  కాస్తో కూస్తో ఉంటోంది. మిగతా జంతువులు ఏనుగు దగ్గరికి రావడం తగ్గించేసాయి. ఏనుగుకి పరిస్తితి అర్థం కావడం లేదు. గతం లో తన గొప్పదనం చూసి కూడా ఎవరు తన దగ్గరికి ఎందుకు రావట్లేదో అర్థం చేసుకోలేకపోతోంది. 

ఏనుగు ఆరోగ్యం బాగా పాడయిపోయింది. ఇక తనువు చాలిస్తుందేమో అని మిగతా అందరు అనుకుంటూ ఉండగా,  ఒక డాక్టర్ వచ్చి ఏనుగుకి సలహా ఇచ్చాడు. లేచి అందరితో కలవాలని, మిగతా జంతువులతో ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకునే సంబంధాలు తనకే మేలు చేస్తాయని, లేకపోతే తన్నడానికి ఒక పెద్ద బకెట్ తెప్పించుకోమని. ఏనుగుకి భయం మొదలయ్యింది, గతం గురించి గొప్పలు చెప్పుకున్నంత మాత్రాన వర్తమానం లో తను గొప్పది కాలేదని గ్రహించింది. డాక్టర్ సలహా పాటించడం మొదలెట్టింది. ముందుగా నది దగ్గరికి వెళ్లి తొండం నిండా నీళ్ళు తీసుకుని ఒంటి మీద ఉన్న కుళ్ళు వదిలిన్చుకోడం మొదలెట్టింది. ఇంకోళ్ళకి సలహాలు సూచనలు ఇవ్వడం తగ్గించి, అందరిలో ఒకడిలా ఉండటం మొదలెట్టింది. మిగతా జంతువులతో సంబంధాలు మెరుగయ్యాయి., కొవ్వు తగ్గి కండ పెరగసాగింది., ఏనుగు నడక వేగం  పెరిగింది. అడివిలో అన్ని జంతువులు నోళ్ళు తెరిచి చూస్తున్నాయి దూసుకెళ్తున్న ఏనుగుని .

అంతే , అది స్టొరీ , ఇదేమి పంచతంత్రం కథ కాదు , ఇక్కడ ఏనుగు మన దేశం, సింహం బ్రిటన్ , నాలుగు పులులు ఆసియన్ టైగర్స్ , డాక్టర్ మన మన్మోహన్ సింగ్ , ఏనుగు వంటి మీది కుళ్ళు లైసెన్స్ రాజ్, ఏనుగు పెరుగుదల రేటు ఏమో Hindu rate of grwoth.   ఇది  శశి తరూర్ గారి "Panchatantra 2007: The Elephant who became a tiger" వ్యాసం ఆధారంగా రాసాను. అయన వ్యాసం లో , ఏనుగు వంటి మీద పులి చారలు వచ్చాయి అని ముగిస్తారు, మనకి తెలుగులో పులిని చూసి వాత పెట్టుకున్న నక్క సామెత వల్ల , పులితో పోటి పడుతున్న ఏనుగు అని ముగించా. అసలు వ్యాసం " The elephant, the tiger and the cellphone" అనే పుస్తకం లో మొదటి వ్యాసం, ఇది చదివాకా నేనా పుస్తకం కొన్నాను. ఈ వ్యసం మీద వచ్చే comments అన్ని అసలు వ్యాసకర్త కే అంకితం. కాకపోతే ఆయన ట్విట్టర్ లో బిజీ బిజీ ...

ఆ వ్యాసం కూడా 2007 లో రాసింది...ఇప్పుడు అయితే "డ్రాగన్ తో పోటి పడుతున్న ఏనుగు కథ " అనో "  డ్రాగన్ ని చిరాకు పరుస్తున్న ఏనుగు కథ " అనో రాయాలి నిజానికి . 

On Right to recall

Holding the right to recall to keep our elected leaders on toes seems to be a nice idea which might improvise our democracy. But we should not forget practical and theoretical problems with it.

Practical Problems

1. To recall a person, we need to have elections periodically every six months or so. And the election burden will be a problem.

2. Lets say, money is no issue and EC is conducting elections periodically so that we can recall our previously elected MP. And lets say we recalled the present fellow who is from a party and elected a guy from another party. So this is going to change the share of each party periodically in the parliament. So no party will have the guarantee to hold majority seats in parliament for 5 years, so each govt is highly unstable and our news papers will be filled with ally-formations and we will have hard time to remember who is holding a particular ministry at that time. As each govt comes with its own agenda , we will not move in a particular direction for more than six months or so.  If you been following the politics of karnataka, just imagine the same scenario at the center, then you will get the picture.

Theoretical problem is , though we call our MP's representatives, they are primarily our leaders who we trusted with our votes and next 5 years of time. Voting means , giving somebody the authority to make laws behalf of me. The one elected is the one who is trusted by many. And he will participate in law making and we should obey those laws,  that is the deal with representative democracy. But its not a lifetime opportunity.  If we are not satisfied with the way he made laws we will have the chance to recall and elect another one for every five years. So we are giving 5 years of chance for an elected govt to prove its worth and show some results, because thats the least time any govt would take to make a policy and implement it and the results to be visible.  Those representatives are not delegates to recall whenever we feel like, just like the diplomats to other nations. The delegate is the one who acts like a branch office or a messenger  or to do a particular task. Delegates dont have authority.

We just cant recall a person only because he voted for construction of dam in my locality which will swallow my farmland. But the construction of dam might provide water to lacs of hectors of land in some other village. Should my MP be punished because he helped my fellow Indians in next district or village? Of course he should be punished if he cant get me a proper compensation money.

But, there is good news too. Some economists say, one of the reasons India was not affected the earlier recession is the 2009 general elections. Because election time is the time politicians bring their black money and distribute. So money was flowing in our country at the time of elections. If this right to recall comes to force, black money will be flowing with every election. But there is a catch, as each politician doubt being a MP for more than six months, he will be more corrupt to get all the spent money on elections back. We choose another one, and there is a fat chance that he is also corrupt, so we end up having more corrupted MP's in rotation than now.
