Midnight in Paris

The movie targeted the audience with literary interest. But the message is for the people who believes that life is more elegant in the past.

The protagonist is a Hollywood actor, who wants to give a shot at writing novels. When he was lost and searching for the hotel, a guy invited him to join a party and offered lift in his vintage care. In that car hero travels to the time and place which he thinks great i.e Paris in 1920's. From that day he travels to the past every midnight in that vintage car and hangs out with his literary idols and kind of fell in love with girl friend if Pablo Picasso.

The girl is just like him who happens to think that life 1890's is more elegant than in 1920's. When they both travel through the time in a horse cart, protagonist observes that artists of that era are admiring their predecessors in literature and arts. Hero understands that the artists of every generation think past is more glorious and more classier  than theirs. He explains that to ex of Picasso but she choose to stay in the time what she believes to be filled with elegance.

The story ends after our hero cancelled his engagement and started dating a girl from "nostalgia shop".

I never shared the beliefs of hero regarding past except for cigars. What caught my attention is the relation between him and his fiance. She is more of a woman who likes to be on  top of the world, and she always seem to try to fit him in her version of boy friend,  instead of accepting him as he is. When he didnt bend, she started sleeping with her crush from college and wish that hero learns from him. She could not understand the simple pleasures of hero like walking in the rain and thought that he is little weird. The more she treats him with disparagement  the more i hated her. Director has done a great job in showing such a character.

The dialogue of Hemingway character explaining fear of death as outcome of lack of love has lifted me up and then dropped me in the well of thoughts. I am sure, much contemplation is needed in that area.

The movie is good, gives us something to think about and reminded me to resume the book of Hemingway which i started long back.

If all artists are dead....

Of late i started wondering , what would have happened to the world, if there are no artists.

I always  consider an artist not as an entertainer but as the one who will show us ways of expressing an emotion in different forms of media.

They say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, but those eyes are controlled by the brain which learns many things including identification of beauty while growing up. The society teaches us whats beauty along with many. Here society does not refer to the rules and customs of the society but the widely accepted entertainment.

Da vinci felt that the half smile of a women is beautiful, and he is an artist, so he drew whats in  his mind , and ever since monalisa become the synonym for beauty.  In fact the whole bunch of authors , who are majorly from European, made being fair is equal to being beautiful. The same thing with long hair. I believe, we think those are attractive only because we learned to believe so.  The same logic goes to political opinions. 

This pattern is observed not only in forming opinions but also the way we act in a situation. Its not unknown that die-hard fans have the same mannerisms of their favorite actors. Of course some of them are trying to impersonate them but still....

But i was not able to decide if this concept is negative or positive at an individual level. I no longer have to think  and feel to form opinions on something, and i have ready-made action bits and dialogs to use in a social situation. That takes load out of my mind , but am i not becoming a slave to my surroundings ?

But i think its ok, because it could not affect the world as a whole , there are many out there who think and not ashamed to announce that they dont like music of ilayaraja at all. And not every A.R.R music is a hit, not every chiranjeevi movie or Bapu movie is a hit. I belong to the minority which believes aiswarya roy looks stupid and dusky girls are more attractive. Not all people like books of chetan bhagat. So, no matter in what length the society wants to teach us, not all of us want to be taught something based on popular demand.  As long as there are  humans who behave like sheep, there will be a black sheep to show less popular options to rest.

Bribing a police

This tutorial is not for murderers, rapists and politicians.

This how - to guide consists of 3 parts based on police officer.

1. The police who caught you for the bribe will imply what he wants. Like saying nonsense rules which don’t exist. For example, once a police caught me because I have earphones plugged in my ears and according to him its violation of law. It clearly indicates he is looking for money. There will be no way out, because we can’t argue with them about laws. He will simply say discuss those with the judge. So agree soon and give him some money.

Another way a police will ask for money is by cooking a story, like telling us that they have received a complaint against us, so they have come. Easy way to escape is to bribe him; it could be as low as 25% of the fine amount.

This type of police is easy to handle, they know what they want and we know what they want and without much ado both parties jump into the actual business talk.

2. Type two are like opportunists, they wait for you to offer bribe with no specific cues. The only clue to offer money is , he will hold the pen and pad, and asks you as if threatening “you want me to write a fine or not?”

3. While first two types are mostly rude, the third type is soft. Like bargaining tomatoes at vegetable market. They literally beg, “give some amount you like” will be the phrase. Or they are too sophisticated and act as if bribe taking is part of the job, there will be no change in the modulation of tone. The constable in safari suite, who come to enquire when we applied for passport is the example.

And those who don’t take bribe, they simply fill the form, collect the fine and will ask you to leave.
In any case, its just not the money the police is looking for , the power of uniform and arms will be in the head. One cant afford to talk in a disrespectful way with them,

The Mine by Arnab Ray

The author is one of the widely read blogger.  The Mine is his second book and first in fiction I guess. Anyway I like his tweets (@greatbong) and enjoy reading his blog posts. He has that subtle sense of humor where you can admire the sarcasm with a smile. 

Somewhere in the Rajasthan, some rich people started digging for something, and bumped into an old shrine with bizarre sculptures and sayings in old Hebrew language under them.  After that there were mysterious deaths happened in the mine and a highly paid team is formed to enquire into the matter. Our protagonist, an old spy of India is part of them. 

The head of the mine, after some incidents informs them that, they all have done fatal things in the past, so there  are here to suffer for their sins. The twist is, she has released a nervous gas, which might enhance their physical abilities but gives them a mental torture. And the route to get out of the mine is filled with sophisticated booby-traps.   

By the end of the novel, I was clutching the book hard and my eyes are moving like crazy over the lines. 

But there are too many loose ends. First of all, why a bunch of wealthy people want to dig up a hole in the earth , and inviting all the criminals who are never punished by the law , then kill them there.  Morgan Freemans movie seven , and aparichitudu came to my mind.

And author completely neglected the way the shrine which aroused in interest in the readers. He tried to strike a balance between thriller, a psychological thriller, a drama and a historic novel. But he settled on thriller for most of the part.

The Mine is gripping, a page turner and all that. But it didnt not made sense when I finished the novel and had a tea.  But considering the fact its just second book of the author and the book made me sit and read. I have hopes on this author. I think he is writing a new book now, I am going to pre-order it.

Why do we have to ?

Sometimes i wonder what would have happen to world if we dont have nothing to engage ourselves like a hobby and a religion, and nothing which keeps us from thinking like alcohol and a structure prescribed by society to fit it.

Surely, an idles man mind is a devils workshop and everything around us tries to make sure that it wont happen.

If those two factors are not present, what we would have done? Just work?

To satisfy " actual needs " we dont need much. A saint and a begger also surviving with minimum things. But they have religion or something to keep their mind occupied. Why do we need arts in the first place? They dont provide food,cloths are shelter.  Why do we need others to survive? Why do we need to feel alive or achievements. Why do we have to make babies , knowing that they will die eventually. Why do we need shelter and clothes, knowing the early man and rest of the animal kingdom survived without them.

Why do we have think about others, make affords for their betterment,knowing the fact that they will also die.

Why do we have to watch tv serials and movies, or read fiction to feel how other ppl persons in those situations would feel, knowing that its not our lives.

Why do we have to crave for acceptance of others or even to laugh, which will not add anything extra to our lifestyle.

Why do we have to know the information of others business including celebrities, when we have little knowledge about ourselves.

Why do we have to judge others? Which will not bring us one more meal?

Why do we have take alcohol and drugs and forget our problems and then switch on tv to know about / feel problems of others?

Why cant we earn our meals, then sit idle till we are hungry like rest of the animals.

Is it because of love, or because its hardwired in our brains, or for entry pass to heaven?

From all the above i conclude that, i have become little cynical and need to do something to retain my smile.

అష్టావధానం లో నిషిద్దాక్షరి లాంటి ఆటని మనం ఆడుతూ ఉంటాం ఎప్పుడు.

ఉదాహరణకి , కరెంటు కోత సమస్యని తీసుకోండి, కరెంటు కావాలి అంటాము, అక్కడ బొగ్గు నిల్వలు అయిపోతున్నాయి, దేశ జనాభా పెరుగుతోంది, కాబట్టి ఇంకా జల విద్యుత్ కేంద్రాలు,నిర్మించాలి అని ప్రభుత్వం అంటుంది, వెంటనే మనం, చ చ అదేం కుదరదు, జల విద్యుత్ వల్ల కొన్ని జంతువులు చచ్చిపోతాయి, అడవులు అంతరించిపోతాయి, మేము ఒప్పుకోం అనేస్తాం, సరే solution వోద్దన్నారు కాబట్టి సమస్యని భరించండి అని ప్రభుత్వం అంటే, అదేం కుదరదు, నువ్వే solution చూడాలి అంటాం, తర్వాత ప్రభుత్వం అణు విద్యుత్ కేంద్రం అంటుంది, వెంటనే అది కూడా వోద్దనేస్తం, ఎందుకంటే nuclear అనే మాట వినబడగానే మనకి హిరోషిమ నాగసాకి మీద బాంబు వేసినపుడు తీసిన ఫోటో అలా కళ్ళ ముందుకు వచ్చేస్తుంది, ప్రభుత్వానికి కాలింది, సమస్యని భరించలేరు, సమాధానానికి ఒప్పుకోరు , ఇక లాభం లేదని, అణు విద్యుత్ వైపు అడుగులు వేసింది, దానికి ఇంధనం కావాలి కదా, అది మన దగ్గర దొరకదు, కొన్ని చోట్ల uranium దొరికినా, దాన్ని భూమి నించి వెలికి తీసి వాడడానికి మనం ఒప్పుకోము, ఎందుకంటే గునపం కొట్టి కొత్తగానే ఆ ప్రదేశం అంతా పేలుతుంది అని మన నమ్మకం. ఇంకేం చెయ్యాలి , చచినట్టు బయటనుంచి ఇంధనం తెచ్చుకోవాలి, వాడు ఫ్రీ గా ఇవ్వడు కదా, డబ్బులు అడుగుతాడు, ఛా మన నాయకులు వేదేశాలకి వెళ్లి అక్కడి మందు తాగేసి, వ్రేలిముద్రలు వేసేసి మన భూమిని అమ్మేశారని నారాయణమూర్తి లాంటి వాళ్ళు చెప్పగానే మనం ఒక సరి చప్పట్లు కొట్టి అవునవును అనేస్తాం.

The fear of something feeds on rumor and destroys us eventually. So, to believe in something, it does not have to be true, it has to strengthen our argument , or our fears.

Life without a phone !!

Many complain that phone is disturbing their normal life, and life without it is cool. I disagree.

Phone is not the reason, its our inability to handle pestering calls makes life miserable. Why blame phone for that. In fact, after i lost my android, my life became boring and tedious.

Now i have to go to computer to check emails, to make railway reservations, to book movie tickets, to recharge my mobile, to pay bills, to check my bank balance, to write blog posts, to read newspaper, to buy or sell shares.  I dont have smartphone, so , i have to read the paperbacks, and use those irritating bookmarks whenever i stop reading. Now i have to open that bulky Cambridge dictionary to check meaning of a word.

No phone means, no google maps and i have to ask strangers for directions,  whose probability of being right is not 100%. When i had it, i just have put ear phones on , set the directions and my phone will give me the audio directions wherever i required. It was easy to find a petrol bunk or appolo pharmacy or a coffee day with a smart phone. Now i have to stop the bike and ask people.

Now i have to rely on google or newspapers to know which movie is being played at which theater. I have to write down , to remember things as there is no smart phone with calender.  No alarm, no camera, no emergency flash light, no twitter news,  ....... life without a smart phone sucks (Once got used to it)

Dressed to get raped ?

Whenever a rape case surfaces, first feminists occupy the TV screen condemning it, then "analysts" will steal the show by raising questions on ' character of the victim'. Like how revealing her dress before the act, how many tequilas she had , how flirtatious she was etc etc.

Based on these analysis, " traditionalists " will complain  about the freedom of  women in the society and how western culture is influencing us.

Then again feminists come to picture with an answer to traditionalists. As they have already on TV for this issue before, they had to confine them selves to op-eds this time. Now, their point is , ask rapists not to rape and stop asking women to be inside.

Well, i agree with traditionalists at some level. The counter argument offered by feminists sounds dumb to me. Its like  saying " i wont lock my home but ask the thief not to rob me". As Friedrich Nietzsche indicates, men are only good till they get a chance. Then why give good men a chance to become bad.

 It does not mean i am supporting traditionalists. They tend to link every negative incident to the change in culture. The sexual harassment is everywhere, including rural areas. TV channels dont popularize them because the victims are not so photogenic.

Rapist, he wants to have sex with a girl and cant be reasoned. But whats wrong with girls keeping a pepper spray or something like that with them. The pepper spray might not give 100% protection , but it could help.

But there a point, where i agree with feminists. Why media is trying to show more of victim details than the rapist ?

Minority maths !!

If there is any powerful term in Indian politics, it is "Minority". This one word, created govts , able to procure votes, get suspension in bureaucracy, get reservations and made Ambedkar popular than MK Gandhi.

The first thing which comes to our dumb minds whenever Govt announces a scheme for minorities is, the govt is playing vote bank politics. For the sake of votes its neglecting majority and concentrating only on minorities. This is the first allegation, congress party gets from RSS i.e congress is working in favor of muslims to capture their vote banks.

But its democracy, who ever gets more votes forms the govt. How could any party neglect majority and form govt based on minority. Does not the word  "minority" means less in number? If BJP is working for Hindus, which forms majority in our country, and all Hindus got dogmatic hindutva as RSS claims, then why BJP lost elections? After all , this country is made up of 80% Hindus.

Do we have to assume that, congress won because hindus never bothered to vote in the first place , muslims voted and congress got the majority. Clearly it is not what had  happened. The pragmatic explanation would be, all hindus are not as fanatic as RSS or VHP. Most of the indians really dont discriminate a person based on religion ( except when it comes to his daughter's wedding). Most of us might claim that, ayodhya should be for Hindus , but we dont openly support killing of non-hindus. Once in a while, we might complain that modern india is losing hindu traditions, but we know we cant tolerate if vedic traditions are incorporated into the society. We might form groups based on caste and bitch other castes , but we dont really hate them.

BJP didnt win right after Babri incident, it didnt win after Godra. This shows that,  even after religious clashes, religion failed to be a factor to get votes.. Now what makes BJP and RSS think that, promoting Modi, a hindu fanatic, for prime minister post, going to give me them victory? 

అసమర్థుని జీవయాత్ర

అదేంటో, ఈ చిన్న పుస్తకాన్ని ఎన్ని సార్లు చదివినా కొత్తగానే ఉంటుంది. మొదటిసారి చదివాకా కాస్త confusion వచ్చింది, ఈ పుస్తకం బాగుందా బాలేదా అని. రెండో సారి చదివాకా ఇది చాలా గొప్ప పుస్తకం అనిపించింది. కాకపోతే ఏమిటా గొప్ప అన్న విషయం లో clarity లేదు. మూడో సరి చదివాక కొంచం వచ్చింది.

రచయిత గోపీచంద్ గారు,ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని చాప్టర్లు గా విడగొట్టారు కాని, మొత్తం పుస్తకం లో చివరి 20 పేజెస్ వరకు ఒక భాగం , మిగతా 20 పేజెస్ ఒక భాగం గా చూస్తా నేనెప్పుడు.

మొదటి  భాగం అంతా ఒక ధనవంతులఇంట్లో పుట్టి, తాను చేసిన సాయాలకి అందరు పొగుడుతూ ఉంటె అది అలవాటయ్యి, పేదరికం వచ్చి ఆ పొగడ్తలు లేకపోవడం వల్ల బాధపడుతున్న ఒక వ్యక్తీ గోల.  పేదరికపు కష్టం కన్నా ,ధనం లేకపోవడం వల్ల పొందలేకపోతున్న సుఖాలని, మర్యాదలని తలచుకుని బాధపడుతూ, ఆ బాధని భార్య మీద, కూతురి మీద ఆగ్రహం రూపం లో ప్రవహిమ్పజేస్తూ , భార్యాపిల్లల మీద కోపం వాళ్ల మీద ఉన్న ప్రేమ వల్లే వస్తోందని, కోపం వచ్చేంత ప్రేమ పుట్టడానికి తనకున్న మెత్తటి మనసే కారణం అనుకుంటూ, తన తప్పుల్ని మర్చిపోడానికి, వేదాంతం, ఆధ్యాత్మికం, మనవ సంబంధాలు అన్న విషయాల గురించి ఆలోచిస్తూ, వాటినే తన స్నేహితులతో మాట్లాడుతూ, కనీసం అలా అన్న తన తెలివిని సమాజం గుర్తించి , ఒక గుర్తింపు ని, కాస్త పొగడ్తని పడేస్తుంది అనుకుంటూ, అలా జరగకపోవడంతో, బహిరంగం గా అందరి తప్పుల్ని బయటపెట్టి, అందర్ని విమర్శిస్తే , అప్పుడయినా గుర్తింపు వస్తుంది అని ప్రయత్నాలు మొదలు పెడతాడు.

అలా అని కథానాయకుడు వెధవ కాదు, తన ప్రవర్తన వాళ్ల ఇంట్లో వాళ్ళు బాధపడుతున్నారు అని మధ్య మధ్య అర్థం అవుతూ ఉంటుంది. అప్పుడు వెంటనే ప్రేమ ప్రదర్శిస్తాడు. వెంటనే వాళ్ళు కూడా ప్రేమని చూపించాలని ఆశిస్తాడు.  ఇతను చూపిస్తున్న ప్రేమ, నిజమయిన ప్రేమ అని, దానిని అర్థం చేసుకుని, అంతకు ముందు అతను తిట్టిన, కొట్టిన సంఘటనలు మర్చిపోయి, ఇతని పట్ల ప్రేమ పుట్టడానికి పట్టే సమయాన్ని ఇంట్లో మనుష్యులకి ఇవ్వకుండా, నేను ప్రేమగా ఉన్నా, వెళ్ళు నా పట్ల ప్రేమగా ఉండరు అని కోపం తెచ్చేసుకుని ఇంకాస్త రచ్చ చేస్తుంటాడు.

ఇటువంటి ప్రవర్తన , మనకేప్పుడన్నా ఉందా లేక  మన స్నేహితులలో ఎవరికీ ఉందా అన్న ఆలోచన పూర్తయ్యేలోపే, అతని స్నేహితుల స్వభావాల మీద చర్చ మొదలవుతుంది. మన హీరో కి ఉండే స్నేహితులు మనందిరికి ఉన్నారు. స్నేహితుల గురించి రాసిన పేజెస్ బాగా ఎంజాయ్ చేస్తా ఎప్పుడు చదివినా.

భార్యని కొట్టాక ,మన హీరో కి ఉన్న వేప  కాయంత వెర్రి, పుచ్చాకయంత పిచ్చి అవుతుంది. పిచ్చి వాడిలా మాట్లాడటం మొదలు పెట్టడం , అందరి పిచ్చి ప్రశ్నలు వేయడం మొదలు పెడతాడు. ఇది అంతా మొదటిభాగం. ఈ భాగం గొప్పతనం ఏమిటంటే, ఇంకోళ్ళ కన్నా తను మెరుగు, అని నిరూపించడానికి మనిషి చేసే ప్రయత్నాలన్నీ దీన్లో ఉన్నాయి.

ఇప్పుడు రెండో భాగం మొదలవుతుంది. దీన్లో మొత్తం గా రామయ్య తాత మన హీరో కి పీకే క్లాస్సే ఉంటుంది. కాని సమాజాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకోడానికిఈ భాగం బాగా పనికి వస్తుంది. ముఖ్యంగా సంఘం కుల్లిపోయింది అని నమ్మే వాళ్ళు చదవాల్సిన పార్ట్ ఇది.  చెంప మీద గట్టిగా కొట్టినట్టు చెప్పే పాయింట్ ఏంటంటే " change in the society is never linear and never uniform" .  ప్రస్తుతం సమాజం లో ఉండే విభిన్న ధ్రువాల్ని అర్థం చేసుకోడానికి ఈ పాయింట్ బాగా పనికి వస్తుంది.

తరువాత, సమాజం లో  "మార్పు " అనుసరించే మార్గం వివరిస్తారు. మార్పు కావాలి అన్నప్పుడు మొదటగా మనం చేసేది, అప్పటి దాగా ఉన్న దాన్ని తెగ తిట్టడం. మార్పు రాగానే , ప్రపంచం పూలవనం లా తయారవుతుంది అని ప్రచారం చెయ్యడం. కొన్ని పేజెస్ వీటి మీదే చర్చ సాగింది.

తర్వాత, ప్రక్రుతినుంచి తప్పించుకోడానికి సమాజం ఏర్పడటం, సమాజం ని నిలబెట్టడం కోసం, దానికొక దిశ కల్పించాదానికి మనిషి ప్రయత్నించడం, సమాజం వ్యక్తీ స్వభావాన్ని ఎలా మారుస్తుంది,అన్న విషయాలు వివరిస్తాడు. ఈ వివరణ లో బాగా గుర్తుపెట్టుకోవలసిన లైన్ " సంఘాన్ని ముక్కలుగా కాకుండా , మొత్తం గా చూడటం నేర్చుకో " .

ఈ  పీకిన క్లాసుకి , మన హీరో నమ్మకాలు ఎర్రగా కాలాయి,తర్వాత మన హీరో నీడ, తల్లి దండ్రుల ఆత్మలు, ఇంకొన్ని ఊహలు, దెయ్యాలు అన్ని కలిసి, ఎర్రటి ఇనుప కద్దీల్లా ఉన్న నమ్మకాల మీద సమ్మెట దెబ్బలు వెయ్యడం మొదలు పెడతాయి. తను నమ్మింది తప్పు అని తెలుసు, కాని సరి అయిన దారిలో వెళ్ళాలంటే, నమ్మకాన్ని వదిలిపెట్టాలి, అలా వదిలి పెట్టడం కష్టం, ఈ కష్టం కి కారణం తనే తండ్రే అని, ఆయన్ని కాసేపు తిడతాడు, కాని , నమ్మకాలని మార్చుకోడానికి మనసు వెంటనే అంగీకరించదు. ఈ హడావిడిలో మన హీరో బాల్చి తన్నేస్తాడు. అదీ కథ.

ఏంటో, ఈ పుస్తకం ఎన్ని సార్లు చదివినా, మళ్ళి కొత్తగానే ఉంటోంది, ఎంత ఆలోచించినా, ఇంకో కొత్త ఆలోచన వస్తూనే ఉండుంది.



 

India's Politics: A view from the backbench

This book is written by Bimal Jalan , ex-RBI chairman and ex-MP. He had the honor of representing India in IMF and in World Bank.

When i picked up this book, i assumed that he will present me the point of view of an economist on Indian politics. But i was highly disappointed. He rambled on several pages on how few bills were passed in the parliament without properly discussing them and his observations on parliamentary proceedings.

He complained a lot, i felt like i was reading "The Hindu" news paper in book form. Later he presented some remedies to repair our political system.

Not a great book, a bit boring, well thats how backbenchers feel about every activity in the room. But it engaged me from Vizag to Hyderabad in Janmabhoomi Express.

అంతర్ముఖం ..... చెత్తముఖం

ఎప్పటినుంచో  చదువుదాం అనుకున్న పుస్తకం, ఒకసారి కొన్నా కూడా, మా ఫ్రెండ్ కొట్టేసాడు నా దగ్గర నుంచి. చివరికి ఇంకోళ్ళ దగ్గర అప్పు తీసుకుని చదివా.

May be, ఒక పదేళ్ళ క్రితం చదివితే బాగా నచ్చి ఉండేదేమో. అంటే అప్పట్లో నేను "మానవ సంబంధాలన్నీ ఆర్థిక సంబంధాలే ", "అందరు స్వార్థపరులే", "ప్రజలంతా శ్రుంగారాన్ని, ఆకర్షణని , మొహంని  ప్రేమ అని అంటారు ", "మనిషిని మనిషి పీక్కుని తినే రోజులివి " , "అనుబంధం ఆప్యాయత అంతా ఒక బూటకం  " అని తెగ నమ్మే వాడిని. ఈ పుస్తకం చదువుతుంటే అప్పట్లో నా ఆలోచలనలు గుర్తొచ్చి నవ్వుకున్నా. ఒక మనిషిలోని చెడుని మాత్రమే చూసి, ఒక్క సంఘటనకే కదిలిపోయి, ఆవేశం లో మానవాళి మొత్తం అంతా ఇంతే అని generalize చేసే రోజులవి.

సరే పుస్తకం విషయానికొస్తే, ఒక్కోచెడు సంఘటన తీసుకోడం, అందరు అంతే చెబుతూ ఒక generalization. దాని మీద ఒక quotation.  ఒక పుస్తకం చదువుతూ , పెన్ను తో  underline చేసే అలవాటు ఉన్నవాళ్ళకి, కనీసం రెండు పెన్నుల్లో ఇంకు అయిపోతుంది. అన్ని quotations ఉన్నాయి.

అలా  మన హీరో గారు, ఒక సంఘటనని సిగరెట్ తాగుతూ కిటికీ లోంచి చూస్తూ, అయన విశ్లేషణ అయన చేసేస్తూ, ప్రజలకి బోధిస్తూ , ఎవరు తనని ప్రేమించకుండా తనకు దగ్గరకి రాకుండా జాగ్రత్త పడుతూ ఉన్న సమయం లో , అయన తల్లి మరణించడం, తర్వాత ఒక ముర్దర్ కేసు లో ఇరుక్కోడం, కోర్ట్ లో వాళ్ళు కూడా అచ్చం ఈయన లాగే, అసలు కథ ఏంటి అని పక్కన పెట్టేసి, తల్లి మరణిస్తే ఏడవలేదు, తల్లి మరణిస్తే సిగరెట్ తాగాడు, అన్న విషయాలు పట్టుకుని, ఈయన పర్సనాలిటీని విశ్లేషించేందుకు  ప్రయత్నిస్తూ  వాదోపవాదాలు చేసేసుకుంటూ ఉంటారు. ఆ కేసు లోంచి బయటపడతాడు, పిల్లలు సంసారం సాగుతూ ఉంటాయి, ముసలితనం వచ్చేస్తుంది, ఆయన్ని బ్రతికుండగానే కొడుకులు ఎలా వదిలించుకున్నారు ( అప్పట్లో ఈ థీమ్ బాగా సాగేది, ముసలితనం లో తల్లిదండ్రులని పట్టించుకోని కొడుకుల గురించి ), ఎలా ఆయన్ని శవం అని చూపించి ఒక బిచ్చగాడు లాభ పడ్డాడు ఇలా ఇలా ఇలా సాగింది. సరే, ప్రపంచం లో ఉన్న చెత్త అంతా చూపించేసి , ప్రపంచమే ఒక చెత్త బుట్ట అన్న పాయింట్ చెబుదామని అనుకున్తున్నదేమో అనుకుంటే, చివర్లో , అంతా తూచ్, ప్రణవి కనబడి నా కళ్ళు తెరిపించింది, ప్రపంచం చేత్తమయం కాదు, ప్రేమమయం అనేస్తాడు, పోన్లే చివర్లో అన్నా కాస్త పాజిటివ్ గా రాసాడు అనుకుంటే , ఒక పారాగ్రాఫ్ తో మళ్ళి చిరాకు తెప్పించాడు.

" ఒకప్పుడు మనుషులు ఇలా ఉండేవారు కాదు, కొంచం ప్రేమ, కొంచం ఆప్యాయత, కొంచం నిస్వార్థం ఉండేవి. నీ ప్రతినిధిగా నేను వెళ్లి చూసిన ఆ ప్రపంచం ఎంత దారుణంగా ఉందొ దేవుడువి అయిన నీవే వూహించాలేవు. అందుకే ....నాకు ఇస్తున్న వరంగా...నా పట్ల ప్రణవి చూపించిన ప్రేమని మనుషులందరి మనస్సులో ప్రవేశపెట్టు. ఏ నిస్వార్థంతో ఆమె మరణించినదో ...ఆ 'అంశ' ని మనుష్యులల్లో కొద్ది కొద్దిగా నింపు " ....

 దేవుడు ఒప్పుకుంటాడు, వెంటనే ప్రక్రుతి పులకిస్తుంది. 

ఒకప్పటి ప్రజలు ఇప్పటి కన్నా నీతి మంతులు, మంచి వారు, ప్రేమించే గుణం ఉన్నవారు, ఏంటో ఈ చెత్త మాటలు అనిపిస్తుంది. ప్రస్తుతం సమాజం లో ఉన్న చెడుని చూసి, ఆ చెడు ఈ కాలం లోనే పుట్టింది అనడం సరి కాదు అనిపిస్తుంది. చెడు అనేది ఎప్పుడు ఉంది, అలాగే మంచి కూడా.  మంచిని చెడుని కాలం విడదీయలేదు కదా. 2012 వరకు అంతా మంచి , 2012 తర్వాత అంతా చెడు అంటూ. వాటి రూపం మారుతూ ఉండొచ్చు. మాదకద్రవ్యాల సమస్య నల్లమందు కాలం నుంచి ఉంది. ఒక వ్యక్తిని చంపడం, దొంగతనం, మోసం చెయ్యడం అనేవి నాగరికతో పాటు మొదలయినవే. నిత్యానంద లాంటి దొంగ స్వాముల గురించి గురజాడ ఎప్పుడో కన్యాశుల్కం లోనే రాయడం జరిగింది. అలాగే illicit relationships కూడా అదే పుస్తకం లో చెప్పడం జరిగింది. భరతం లో ఇలాంటి వాటి మీద పిట్ట కథలు ఉన్నాయి. ప్రస్తుతం మన జీవితం దుర్భరంగా ఉంది, ప్రస్తుత సమాజం కుళ్ళి పోయింది లాంటివి నచ్చుతయనుకుంటా, ఇదే పాయింట్ మన న్యూస్ చానల్స్ కూడా బాగా వాడుకుంటున్నాయి.

ఏది ఏమయినా , దీనికన్నా యండమూరి ఆనందో బ్రహ్మ చాలా మంచి పుస్తకం అనిపించింది. 

Prometheus

Just wanted to watch a movie with my college buddies and we believed in two guys to bring tickets for a movie. Well, thats the mistake we did. They bought tickets for prometheus. As usual i started complaining about alien movies but my friends are used to it and dragged me into the theater anyway.

The concept was good and interesting. Alien movie means we all think that a bunch of ugly looking aliens invade earth and then will smith or Arnold will save it. But in this movie, humans go to aliens believing that they have engineered human race, based on rock pictures which were found in every prehistoric civilization. Those pictures seem to indicate the answers humans are looking for. From where we come? Where will we go after death ? And whats our purpose on earth ?

One old man, who is like me but filthy rich , wanted to escape death , sponsored the  mission to the other planet (Not in solar system) from where they believe the engineers of human race resided. They went with an anthropomorphic robot. They found  ships in that planet which are aimed to reach earth to and destroy it. In the mean while, one alien who was

Governance by Arun Shourie

When someone writes about Governance or bureaucracy, it is usually about corruption or how officials treat citizens. But this one is way too different.

He didnt talk on the catchy topics like corruption, instead he chosen to discuss how bureaucrats create work for each other as Max Weber mentioned, and how things are getting delayed because each one try to transfer the decision making in the form of a file from one table to another so that they dont have to take the blame if something goes wrong.  And how lot of hours, meetings and paper work will go wasted when a person gets a doubt in something. (The first chapter talks about 10years various departments took while clearing the doubt of an employee at SAIL on the color of the ink which should be used to write notes on files)

Then he discussed how administrator try to control things in market economy in the name of administration by creating maze of rules and procedures which lead to confusion and loss. He gave the example of telephone industry in this regard.

Then he moved to how ridiculously we deal with environment problems, and how we could use modern technology to save environment and boost economy at the same time. He discussed the idea to use fly ash which is the product of thermal power stations to make cement bricks instead of spending crores on ash ponds. I liked it.

After that, the discussion is on Muslims. And again he maintained the distance from the popular topics in this one too. He didnt talk about ISI, pakistan, terrorism or not even WAKF boards. The discussion is on how general public blame muslims for population growth which is totally pointless. And what to do with the illegal immigrants  who came from Bangladesh and started influencing the politics of north eastern part of India.

Overall the book was good, insightful but i felt little boredom, may be because there is no wit and no rich articulation like in shashi tharoor books.

Right questions and wrong answers !!

We all are bugged with the question 'Why', perpetually.  This is the question which pops up in the head when something is bothering us. Why my life sucks? Why i am not getting a job? Why she hates me? Why he hit me? etc etc.

At a personal level, the question is not so problematic. But if the subject is society, the "Why" is the first step of disaster, if its not answered by right answer. Once there is an answer for "Why", we get satisfied with that answer without checking if it is the correct answer or not. And we stop looking for answers after the answer which we want to believe in is delivered.  Asking questions like an over-excited anchor of news channel is simple, throwing some statements with a style and make us believe that is the right answer like our News editors do is also not so hard. But deciding which is the right answer is the pain.

Why there is an epidemic in the village? Because village deity is furious and make some sacrifices to calm her down.

After world war 1, after winners put sanctions on Germany, leading to near collapse of its economy, Germans asked "Why our lives become like this?" And Hitler answered "Because of Jews, kill them".

"Why real world is not utopia?" Karl Marx answered "Because of capitalism and so called personal freedom, kill those "

"Why i am suffering?" , priest answered "Because you are unfaithful to god" and i started going to Temples.

Now my question, is the answer we get is the right answer for the question? Like in school days, somebody has to evaluate answers given to the questions. But who evaluate? On what grounds he should decide that one answer is right and rest are wrong?

1. The trip should not be an unplanned one.

4. We cannot go and book rooms directly at Tyda APTDC hotel, need to book rooms through online or telephone.


5. Before getting captured by the beauty of araku, get a hotel room first

6. Have a redbull before starting to katiki waterfalls.

7. Never ever leave deccan in summer

Political cartoons...!!

Most of the op-ed writers in last week opinionated that the fuss on political cartoons in textbooks is inane and the govt decision to remove them is silly. They thought the issue is over political cartoons but the real issue about "political cartoons in textbooks".

As somebody quoted,  cartoons and sarcasms are for matured mind. And textbooks which are for kids knowledge is the wrong place for them. Already because of the movies and comedy-cartoon shows in news channels we got the impression that 'all our' politicians are uneducated crooks. Reflecting the same opinion in the form cartoons and printing them in textbooks only gives authentication to that view. After going through a bunch of cartoons will make kids to lose their trust in the political system. Once the trust is lost..then its hard to find a reason to move the body from the couch for voting.

Even the the cartoonist have trust in the political system and thats why he worked on that subject but have chosen a funny pictorial way to express it.

 If you dont believe in my argument...make fun of your best friend before your kids when your friend about to visit home and see how your kid receives him. He might be having some of the traits which are laughable but has many qualities which are admirable. But because of the fun you made he will form an opinion and will be reluctant to change it.

Its the same thing with political cartoons in textbooks.
