The frequent complaint about congress by congress-haters is , it always tries to please muslims for votes. But in a democracy any political party tries to get votes so that it can can gain power. To get to power, it needs to have acceptance of majority of voters. Then each political party should try to take care of majority not minority. So it does not make any sense to me that congress party's muslim-pleasing attitude is part of its vote-bank politics to get power.
We cant make a rule of thumb saying, all hindus would vote for BJP as Hindutva is its agenda, and all non-Hindus would vote for congress. If thats the case, then BJP would never lose an election as 80% of Indians belong to Hindu community. Then how come NDA is losing elections?
The bifurcation of Indians in terms of religion to decide who is majority or minority is creating this confusion. If someone wants to categorize indians based on religion, he/she must not forget those indians, who they say they belong to a particular religion for the sake of question, but dont really care about the religion. The muslim men who shave, the muslim women who wont wear Burkha, the Hindu men who party on Xmas and wait for Ramadan to eat haleem, the Hindu Women who wont wear a bindi, the Christians who find church boring etc etc. I dont mean to say they are real secularists or atheists, when it comes to their children's marriage, most of them will preach about greatness of their religion. Its just they have learned to see religion as a personal thing, or its just they dont care much about the religion of the contestant. Its just that they think of this country as India not as Hindustan or enemy of pakistan and they dont of the urge to propagate religion.
The way UPA dealt with Team-Anna proves their dumbness. But I dont think they are that dumb to grasp that they cant form govt at center or state with the minority votes.

I must say, you overlooked some issues or not mentioned because you just want to keep this post simple or small.
People belongs to the so called majority divided by cast. Cong know it very well, and they know how to play cast politics. In which the other party is still a novice. This party depends on hindutva, which don't have support or have very less support among majority number of people in India
Well!! coming to your views on religion. Religion is not a thing that is chosed or much less attained after a hard struggle. Its a mere probability that one happens to "belongs" to a religion. I don't see any reason why one should be emotionally attached to that. Yeah.. we are expected to do follow some rituals and so do ppl limiting that "follow-ship" to occasions - thankfully.
Coming to Congress, these guys are capitalizing on the fact that Hindus don't try to follow their religion and take it very seriously.
BJP, I seriously think that even if BJP could make a Hindu state out of India, that state gets again gets fragmented into various casts. Its the tendency of the ppl to stay devided while boasting of the unity which is superficial.
@srikanth ... my focus in this post is just to raise questions about the blame congress usually gets as a minority-pleaser for votes.
Cast, cash and politics is a very wide topic which requires 1000 page book to write on. So i confined myself to the topic of religion and politics.
"This party depends on hindutva, which don't have support or have very less support among majority number of people in India" ... If you are referring BJP , then its hard to agree with "don't have support or have very less support " .
BJP has got its dedicated followers, but number of followers are reaching the expectations of the party.
@Indian Minerva .. " I don't see any reason why one should be emotionally attached to that" ... Totally agreed.
You took a very deep and complex subject. So I am not going to talk about the details as it is impossible to capture the subject in a blog post.
In geenral I agree with your post. I think Cong. is a bit unfairly accused of being pro minority. There are occations whhen they did appease to the mob psyche of the minorities.
I agree with Indian Minerva's comment also.
